Negotiations on the Transdniestrian conflict settlement have been resumed today in Chisinau in a new 5+2? format with EU and US as observers, and Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Transdniestria and the OSCE as full right members.

Negotiations have been resumed after a 15-month-break caused by the conflict over Romanian teaching schools from Transdniestria.

Moldovan Minister of Reintegration Vasile Sova, the so-called Foreign Minister from Tiraspol Valeri Litkai, Russian Ambassador with Special Missions, Valeri Nesteruskin, Special Representative of the Ukrainian President Dmitri Tkaci, head of the OSCE mission William Hill, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Steven Mann and EU Special Representative for Moldova Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged take part in the negotiations.

The agenda of the negotiations includes OSCE monitoring of arms manufacturing companies from the left bank of the Dniester, demilitarization and democratization of the Transdniestrian region, the evacuation of Russian ammunition, the present situation from the security region and the transformation of the peacekeeping mission into a mission observed by military men and civilians. The agenda for the first round of negotiations does not include debates on the status of Transdniestria, Minister of Reintegration Vasile Sova stated.

The works of the conference Challenges and Opportunities of Moldova as a NATO Neighbor?, organized with the help of the Council of Europe and German Marshal Fund will take place on October 28, in parallel with the official negotiations in Chisinau and Tiraspol.

Winant, US deputy head of mission to Moldova, Marina Lujikova, chairwoman of Regional Strategic Studies Foundation of the Russian Federation, Arcadie Barbarosie, Institute for Public Policy director, Peter Lunak, NATO Public Diplomacy Division chairman, Adriaan Jacobovits de Szeged, EU Ambassador to Moldova. // Reporter.MD
