A Russian Emergency Situations Ministry convoy carrying humanitarian aid has entered the territory of the self-proclaimed republic of Transdniestria.

"The convoy crossed the Ukrainian-Moldovan border near Noviye Goyany and entered Transdniestrian territory at 11:00 a.m. Moscow time," ministry spokesperson Irina Andrianova told Interfax on Saturday.

Representatives from the Transdniestrian leadership and Transdniestrian citizens welcomed the convoy, Andrianova said.

The vehicles are expected to reach Tiraspol by about 1:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Moscow time.

The trucks are carrying over 200 tonnes of medicines, medical equipment and baby-food. The aid was financed by the United Russia party, the Moscow city government and the Moscow regional government. va la
