International experts: Goal of Transdnestr blockade is to force it to capitulate As reported by Regnum.ru News Agency, the Free Europe Foundation held an international conference ?Models of Stability in the Black Sea-Caucasian Region in Sochi Mar 23-24. Among other documents, the conferees adopted a statement on the economic blockade of Transdnestr. Below is the full text of the statement: ?All the participants in the conference express their deep concern with the sitation following the Ukraine Cabinet??s Decree 112 to start an economic blockade of Transdnestr. By grossly violating the 1997 Moscow Memorandum ?˜On the Basic Principles to Normalize Moldavian-Transdnestr Relations,?? which gives Transdnestr the right ?˜to independently establish and maintain international economic, scientific-technical and cultural contacts,?? Ukraine has, in fact, lost its status of the guarantor of the Moldavian-Transdnestr peace process and has taken the side of one of the conflicting parties. The obvious goal of the economic blockade is to force Transdnestr to capitulate upon Moldova??s terms in the face of humanitarian disaster and social-political crisis. Suffering from Ukraine??s actions are ordinary people, among them 70,000 Ukrainian citizens living in Transdnestr. Transdnestr companies are losing their foreign economic ties and contracts, the budget is losing tens of millions of USD dollars. Meanwhile, the Moldavian authorities are showing obvious political solidarity with their predecessors, who unleashed a bloody massacre on the banks of Dniestr in 1992. This is the only way one can assess the behavior of Moldavian President Vladimir Voronin, who said at an event to commemorate the start of the conflict that ?˜the heroism of interior ministry agents and combatants will be remembered by generations as an example of true patriotism.?? With the European structures supporting Moldova, the only country than can guarantee peace in the region is Russia. Hence, we urge the Russian authorities to start a large-scale program to provide Transdnestr with economic, political and humanitarian assistance. The first step to overcome the crisis is to stop the economic blockade right away and to bring all the parties back to the negotiating table. http://www.pridnestrovie.net
