The civil society must have an important role in the democratization of Transdniestria, chairman of the Parliament Marian Lupu told Adrian Jacobovits de Szeged, EU special representative to Moldova.
Marian Lupu and Adrian Jacobovits de Szeged found out a common Moldova-EU position in the process of settling the Transdniestrian conflict based on regions demilitarization and democratization.

Marian Lupu reiterated that the Parliament worked out a concept on the cooperation with the civil society, which implies cooperation with NGOs from both banks of the Dniester for developing democratic institutions.

According to the press service of the Parliament, the EU official voiced hope the EU border assistance mission to Moldova and Ukraine on the Transdniestrian border segment which started working on December 1 will ensure border transparency and will create favorable premises for the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict.

Lupu emphasized that the Transdniestrian issue is tackled at interparliamentary level as well, inclusively within the Moldova-Ukraine and Moldova-Russia relations. Yet, Moldova needs backing at international level, especially on the part of the EU. // Reporter.MD
