CHISINAU. (Interfax) - Moldovan President Vladimir Voronin's mother, Pelagea Voronina, died at Chisinau's national hospital early on July 2. The woman had received treatment at the hospital for several months and had been in a coma in the previous two weeks, a hospital source told Interfax.

Voronina lived all her life in a village in the Dubasari district in Transdniestria, a once Moldovan territory that is currently seeking independence. At the end of last year, the woman was transported to Chisinau in critical condition.

Because of the upcoming funeral ceremonies, President Voronin's agenda has been significantly modified, and a number of events that he was supposed to attend have been cancelled.
