The thing for me with this is you can say every country in the universe will not recognize this referendum as legitimate, but whatever comes out of it will be the result of people's opinions who do want it to be legitimate, the people who it affects directly. If it turns out to be in favor of keeping Transdniestria seperate you cant take those results from people's minds whether you agree to it or not. Like all the other, almost identical, claptrap/copycat articles sprouting up at this time I just dont see the point of them...

Article:

Rusia refuses to be a neutral mediator in the Transdniester conflict settlement process

"Both Chisinau and other foreign capitals hurried to declare the "illegality" and "provocative character" of the referendum on the directions of development to be taken by Transdniester, scheduled for September 17", is mentioned in a communicate of the Russian Federation Ministry of Foreign Affairs Press and Information Department. The attempt to declare the referendum illegitimate is qualified as "surprising" by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, as "the wish to find out the opinion of the population on questions of principle that are directly influencing their fate, is perceived in recognized democratic states as an important juridical basis for the building of a civil society".

"Various declarations on the negative consequences of the plebiscite for the perspectives of the Transdniester conflict settlement divert attention from the really important issue - the need for a rapid normalization of the conditions in which Transdniester external economic activity takes place, normalization on which insists the Russian part", declares the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Earlier, the USA officially called on Russia "to publicly accuse the so-called referendum in Transdniester, as it would contribute to perceiving Russia as a true neutral mediator during the settlement process of the Transdniester conflict ".

The Transdniester referendum on independence, scheduled on September 17, has been qualified by the Council of Europe, OSCE, all the member states of the EU, USA and Ukraine as illegal, and its results would not be recognized.
