Nothing new really, just a slightly odd version of the same news story from the perspective of people who sound like they know virtually nothing about Transnistria: Students at a middle school in the renegade Moldova province of Trasnistria were injured in an explosion Thursday, the Interfax news agency reported. The blast took place at School Number Thirteen in the Transnistrian municipal centre Bendery. Participants in school- sponsored military training for senior students were among the injured. One student suffered flying debris injuries to the upper thigh. Police investigating the incident described the number of other class participants injured as "numerous." There were no early reports of fatalities. Police and emergency medical technicians were on the scene. An investigation into explosion was in progress, police said. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. The most common reasons for explosions in Transnistria are terrorist attacks, and accidents involving improperly-handled containers of natural gas. The blast was the fourth explosion known to have taken place in Transnistria this year. A home-made bomb severely injured a woman in a village north of Tiraspol in late November. The woman most likely triggered the device by accident while attempting to set a trap for thieves, according to the report. Two terrorist-style bombings struck a bus and trolly car in unofficial Transnistrian capital Tiraspol during the summer. Police investigating the incidents have said the attacks may have been linked to the region's tense political situation, but also could have been related to misuse of baggage compartments by public transportation drivers. Russia-speaking Transnistria seceded from Romanian-speaking Moldova after a civil war ending in 1992. Since then Transnistria has had an authoritarian government and Soviet-style police. ? 2006 DPA via www.playfuls.com/
