Bucharest. Probably, one of the greatest successes of Romanian foreign policy in 2005 is the recovery of trust in the relations with Russia, Romanian President Traian Basescu in an interview with the Romanian language section of BBC. “During our utter (other?) phone talks with the Russian President Vladimir Putin in February I recognized Russia’s interests and at the same I confirmed that Romania also has interests in the region with regards to security and economic development”, Basescu pointed out.
Asked whether the Black Sea region, the Transdniester region and Moldova have also been issues of discussion during his talk with Putin, Basescu replied that they have discussed “all that and everything concerning the bilateral economic relations between the two countries. We have different political visions but there are things that relate us. The fight against terrorism is extremely important for both Romania and Russia; the economic development of the Black Sea region is also as important for both the countries. The solving of the frozen conflicts could separate regarding the visions for their solution, but it’s clear that we both want these conflicts to be solved in a favorable way”.
