Zealous border guards in Ukraine have arrested a group of rowing athletes as they inadvertently steered their boat into Ukrainian waters.
The athletes of the Belarus national rowing team were invited to practice in Moldova'sbreakaway region of Transdniestria, where they were training when they crossed the border between Transdniestria and Ukraine on the saltwater Kuchurgan Liman lake.
The Transdniestrians invited the athletes from Belarus to train in their waters as their own lakes and reservoirs in Belarus are still frozen over with ice.
A Ukrainian coast guard boat was sent out to intercept and arrest the 10 rowers who are now facing charges in court. If charged the rowers will most likely have to pay a small fine but may lose their high-tech, expensive rowing boats that have been confiscated.
