Russian plan for settling the Transdniestrian dispute is too radical as it gives too much independence to Transdniestria,? Slovenias Foreign Minister Dimitrij Rupel, the OSCE chairman-in-office, told a meeting in Chisinau on Tuesday.
Russian plan for Transdniestrian conflict settlement brings back the prospect of a federation between Moldova and Transdniestria on the agenda.

Rupel is optimistic about the resumption of negotiations on the Transdniestrian issue and less optimistic about the December elections that are to take place in the region. The OSCE chairman-in-office has said the organization will not be able to monitor the elections in the breakaway region; otherwise it would legalize an undemocratic, unfair and far from free process.

On Tuesday Rupel met Transdniestrian leader Igor Smirnov. The dialogue was constructive?, Rupel said, and Smirnov agreed the Transdniestrian part must be present in the negotiations in enlarged format set for the end of October?. Rupel welcomed the EU and US presence as observers in the talks. With such a make-up it would be easier now to make progress in finding a solution,? the OSCE chairman-in-office stated.

Today Rupel leaves for Kiev where he will meet Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko. // Reporter.MD
