Russia favors the resumption of dialogue on Transnistria in the "five plus two" format involving Moldova, Transnistria, the OSCE, Ukraine, and observers from the United States and the European Union, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told reporters in Moscow on Thursday after talks with his Moldovan counterpart Yurie Lianke.

Mr. Lavrov pinpointed the need to promote trust between Moldova and Transnistria. He called for joint efforts to break the current deadlock and search for a compromise that would pave the way for a comprehensive and viable solution.

"The potential that has already been achieved must not be lost," the Russian minister said.
