Chisinau, December 10, INTERLIC. Tiraspol designated the arrest of a batch of the Transdniestrian coins by the customs organs of Moldova and Ukraine as a provocation. As INTERLIC News agency reports, Chairman of the Transdniestrian Republican Bank Yury Safonov designated the reason of the arrest of the cargo on the territory of the Lvov province as a betrothal between the customs services of Moldova and Ukraine. According to him, Ukraine violated the Agreement on the Cargo Transit through the territory of Ukraine, signed between Transdniestria and Ukraine. Yury Safonov noted that the coins has been declared as metal counters, because Transdniestria is unrecognized state, that is why it cannot declare such cargo as its money. According him, the Transdniestrian coins are minted in Warsaw for 5 years. The juridical department of the Transdniestrian Republican Bank does not rule out that the bank will appeal against the RMs illegal actions. The TMR is going to demand that the confiscated coins would be returned. According to Safronov, the confiscated coins constitute only 0.5% of the money circulation. Let us remind that the Moldovan and Ukrainian Customs Employees intercepted a batch of Transdniestrian coins at $117 thousand, minted by the Mint in Poland in accordance with an order by the Transdniestrian Republican Bank. As Director General of the RM Customs Examination Department Nicolae Vilcu declared at a press conference, a batch of coins was intercepted on the territory of the Lvov province of Ukraine in the result of a joint operation, effected by the RM Customs Examination Department and the Information and Security Service in cooperation with the customs organs of Ukraine. The coins, declared as metal counters, were transported in a KAMAZ truck, belonging to the Transdniestrian Republican Bank. The cached cargo was transferred to the Moldovan side and opened today in the presence of reporters and the representatives of the diplomatic missions, accredited in Moldova. The representatives of the RM Customs Examination Department and the Information and Security Service declared the unlawfulness of the issue of coins for Transdniestria by Poland, having noted that a EU country has no right to mint coins for unrecognized states and having underlined that the such agreement are concluded on the interstate level and the respective licenses are given by the National Bank of Moldova. Meanwhile the Official Chisinau receive the information since long time that Transdniestria mints coins in Poland. RM President Vladimir Voronin requested the official information on it from Polish President Aleksandr Kwasniewski in October 2001, no reply has been received. According to Nicolai Vilcu, Transdniestria does not conceal the fact that it orders coins in Poland, which coins are delivered Transdniestria through the western border of Ukraine. The Chief of the RM Customs Examination Department has declared that the RM investigation organs will solve the further destiny of the cached money.
