The Transnistrian Republican Bank has received a stabilization loan worth $15m from Russia, Igor Smirnov, President of the breakaway Transnistrian Moldovan Republic, said. It is expected that Russia will extend a loan of $150-200m to support Transnistrian enterprises, he noted. Russia had already forwarded two tranches of non-repayable financial aid to Transnistria. More tranches are to follow, Smirnov said.

The Russian loans of $150-200m are aimed at helping Transnistrian population and enterprises survive the economic blockade. The loans are expected to be disbursed in two stages at a regional level against the security of Transnistrian state property. The list of collateral may include machine construction, electrical and defense assets. The Transnistrian government will guarantee the arrangements.
