Ukraine will not send official observers to referendum in Transdniestria to take place on September 17, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry press service head Andrei Deshitsa said at a Tuesday briefing in Kyiv.

"Ukraine announces that it will not recognize the results of this referendum by joining this decision of the European Union," Deshitsa said, commenting on the official Ukrainian position on the elections in Transdniestria.

Official Ukrainian observers will not monitor the referendum. "Naturally, there will be no official observers in this case," he said.

Asked about the implementation of Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenk'splan concerning settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict, foreign ministry official noted that Ukraine "has not parted" from implementation of this plan and continues to have talks with the sides of the conflict in order to coordinate the details of the plan.
